honestly I haven't gotten that far with it but basically I gave all my problems to chn and made him deal with a flare up like I do 😭 he has fibromyalgia and POTS but he actually gets diagnosed and treated. you know. like a person. but I'm thinking abt just. writing my experiences with him as a place holder. wouldn't be the first time I've kind of. put all my pain into a character. (stares at my vminkook fic) but as for now it's very much self indulgent and. kinda only worked on when I feel like shit. feel free to ask any other questions tho I don't mind talking abt it!!!

im not the anon who sent you the question about surpriseverse characterization discrepancy(?) if you can even call it that but i wanted to maybe give you a pick me up instead if you were feeling sad; can we really just freak over how absolutely ADORABLE it is that flx loves to bake sweet treats and that chn literally has such a big sweet tooth and is always gushing about flx’s hobby!!!! they just fit so well together i wanna cry ;;n;;
my delulu headcanon is that if they don’t another schedule in october that keeps them apart, flx is gonna bake chn a really big batch of goodies just the way chn likes them and we’ll get to hear about it maybe 🥲

Hi, I have a question about surprise verse. I have enjoyed reading it but I’ve noticed that Chan in these fics seems a little less. Like I mean it seems like you diminished him in order to make Felicity shine more? If that makes sense. Like he doesn’t make any decisions and Felicity most of the time doesn’t even ask, just tell him what to do or what’s gonna happen and just goes along with everything Felicity wants(I’m not referring to her transitioning, those are decisions she has every right to make on her own), her inner monologue about their sex life is usually something like “he’s sloppy and uncoordinated but it feels good” or like the fact that Chan has a big dick but Felicity’s was bigger. Even in like interactions with their families, everyone seems to look to Felicity more, Chan is just there, idk. It’s just Felicity shines so bright in this but to me it’s like Chan is just there as her accessory😭. I get that suprise verse is Felicity centric but I kinda feel bad for Chan, I’m sorry. Just was that purposefully done or like am I just like way off.
okay so I thought about this for a LOOOONG time. idk if you follow me on twt but I went on a whole tangent today abt this bc it genuinely gave me a lot to think about. I would like to say first off that I never intended for it to feel like he's just an accessory, but I can see how/why someone might see it that way.
i think the crux of the matter is that these have become more like original characters with a skz fancast than based on the actual people.
Because to me, as I'm re-reading these fics, surprise-verse Chris is your run of the mill Korean-Australian man, with curly hair and a big nose. But he also has a soft tummy and only works out so he can physically lift his wife and kids. He's more of a follower and prefers when Felicity takes over. Of course, if he has an opinion he'll voice it and she'll listen, but for the most part they're so on the same page they don't need to. He wants to be a stay at home dad more than anything in the world.
He's not really skz's Chan anymore and it truly comes across in the way I write him, and I can see how that would be upsetting or frustrating. Because the more I look at my own works and imagine it as the Chan we have, I realize a lot of the decisions I've made don't fit him or his personality at all and it frustrates me and I'm the friggen author!
all this to say, you've given me so much to think about, especially in terms of how I proceed but also in me determining whether I want to try to re-write it, or turn it into something even more original, and it's pushing me towards the latter when I realize how truly different they've become from the original personalities I've based them off of.
Thank you so much for bringing this up and giving me a hell of a lot to think about. I genuinely appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

OH YEAH I JUST REMEMBERED THIS
i can imagine liss having like a small box or drawer with like little chocolatey snacks in the bedroom (not for midnight snacks, although…) but for after they’ve been intimate because i believe chocolate helps bring you back to normality and she would give them to chn, or chn would learn abt it and like all shyly put it there himself etc.
btw u don’t have to write this it’s not a prompt but it popped into my head and seems like smthn they’d do/their dynamic because chn is (in her words) so accommodating that she has to give back to him so i just had to tell sm1 because i just remembered it again 😆☺️

ANON THIS IS THE CUTEST FUCKING THING holy shit yeah I can imagine cause like. I always pictured that after that first time, she did SO much research to make sure that she's taking care of him properly after all he's done for all of them because she knows he deserves it so much and if sex is the only place he'll let go like then by golly she'll make it as good as possible so he won't be scared to do it again. she figures out that she LOVES finding new snacks and trying them with chn and he loves being coddled like that because especially in the beginning its the only way he'll let her take care of him (under the guise of it being just as important for her too bc he's nothing if not stubborn as shit bc while it's important for liss it's so much more important for chnni) and even now that they're married, it's just a nice tradition they have and makes it feel special no matter what.

not sure if you still want/need any wedding night trope ideas but i think it would be hilarious if they end up falling asleep before they even get to consummate their marriage LOL. like maybe felicity tells chn she wants to surprise him in her special bridal lingerie but like she’s already been yawning a lot. and chn smiles lazily and watches her go into the in-suite bathroom to change. when she finally comes out, she finds her lovable oaf of a husband knocked out on the bed and she’s actually relieved because she was way too tired for anything tonight, it’d been SUCH a long day. and plus i think it’d be more romantic if they woke up in the morning and got to savor each other as newlyweds. just a suggestion haha 😅

that is a very valid explanation that i hadn’t considered! the realism weaved throughout this series has always been very solid so i’d had to suggest anything that would throw all of that off-kilter. thanks for answering!
maybe you may have feels about this too but do you think chn and felicity would consider being foster parents? i think another good idea is having them be really involved god-parents to someone else’s kids.
again it’s not a big deal if they don’t expand at all, they’re entertaining on their own!

honestly the foster system is such a huge can of worms that I am terrified to touch with a ten foot pole... I only have very adjacent experiences with it and at the same time, I think they would struggle with it, falling in love with the kids and knowing that they're not staying. if they were to be foster parents, they would only take in one kid, or sibling sets, and when the kid(s) leave, they would have to take months off to battle the complex issue of grieving someone who isn't dead, essentially.
I really love the idea of being involved with other peoples kids! I think it's definitely going to happen as they make more friends that are local and if their own siblings have kids. I know I plan on giving her older sister at least two.
