I’d listen to them, actually. Especially my friends. They’re the ones with my best interests at heart, and they’re also the ones looking on and seeing the red flags. It’s easy to be swept away in the romance of it all and to let people away with slightly dodgy behaviour. But that dodgy behaviour can be masking something far worse to come.
