What food from your country do you consider that it does not have the recognition that it should in the rest of the world? What gastronomic gem is are we missing?

This is America, everything we didn't crib from another country is some deep-fried abomination, possibly a delicious one but still

Skirlie! It’s only oatmeal and onions fried in oil, but it’s incredible with any kind of stewed beef or chicken - anything with a gravy, like meat pies. It has an almost sweet, nutty flavour and a fairly crunchy texture. You can also use the same mixture to stuff a chicken or turkey with. It has an entirely different flavour and is softer, but just as delicious.

The North German Fish-Burger. It is called "Fischbrötchen". It is a bun sliced into halves and you put a pickled herring, raw onion rings and pickled cucumber in between. You find the same in the Netherlands and Denmark along the North Sea coast. When it is made from good fish and a perfect bun made like a little wheat bread, crunchy and crusty with a mild and sour fish and good onion this is a very good treat! Most tourists do not know it exists. They only get to see fish 'n chips.

Im not sure, since here in the USA we seem to “borrow” everyone else’s cuisine. Other than hamburgers and hot dogs, I’m not sure I can think of anything that is 100% truly American dish/food.
