Why is smiling with visible teeth considered a friendly gesture though we get the creeps when dogs, crocodiles, snakes, apes, cats do the same?

I think us growling/squealing along with a smile might have the same effect as an angry dog would. You should try it. Go outside and smilegrowl at the first person you meet. I want a full report of what happens next.

Because normally dogs and crocodiles don't really smile, as for apes, well baring teeth is generally considered a sign of aggression among raisin connoisseurs.
