I guess it can be, but teasing can also be a form of ... I dunno, affection? Fun? Healing? And in some cases gentle correction, at least/especially between parent and child. I noticed that friends tease each other a lot and laugh over it, but I don't really relate to it myself. I think it's only funny to be teased because people's egos are so inflated.
I am used to be teased by people with whom I feel close plus people I did tease myself a little bit and with whom I feel close exactly for this. When I tease you a wee bit and you laugh and like it, I will feel closer to u and vice versa. I remember a little game of teasing and teasing back with a new acquaintance that had lovely results during the night and the next day .. your milage can vary ;-)) but it was just that single instance years ago, so it isn't guaranteed to spark each time.
As long as it is not mean-spirited i don’t mind. I would have to feel close to them for this to be acceptable. I think it can be a form of aggression in which the aggressor can always say, “ oh... but I was just joking... why are you so sensitive?” Making it appear as if you have no reason to be upset. I like to tell my kids that if only one of us is laughing or enjoying it, then it’s not just playing of joking around.
Yeah, people I'm close to, I will tease them and they'll tease me back. It's a way I show affection because I wasn't trained properly :-P
I try to stay away from doing it to people when we're not close or I'm not sure how they are going to take it - in those situations it could be a way of asserting yourself over someone, maybe trying to use their insecurities against them
