If you are a Unix/Linux user: what window manager and/or desktop environment do you use?
Linux, Hyprland (wayland), working on a DE called Mist based on it (and a distro that uses it by default)
Cinnamon, it's the default on Mint and it's good enough that I can't be arsed to change it
Never change a running system
ah yes. the kool desktop environment
both kde and hyprland at the minute
Tiling! How about you? 🤓
Cool! I've been wanting to try out some other ones, actually. I was helping my friend on Mastodon customize hers the other day. I think she solved her problem.
wait were "wayland" and "stacking" joke answers or no
No, but I may be confusing the terms...
My original question was about desktop environments like KDE, GNOME, and Xfce, or if used independently of a DE, window managers like i3, bspwm, Openbox, and IceWM. I asked "which compositor" because I thought "Wayland" was a sassy answer and GNOME, KDE, sway, etc include "Wayland compositors" equivalent to window managers.
Oh, alright! Iirc I use Wayland on my machine.
Wayland is just a layer underlying various desktop environments and window managers, positioning windows and doing rendering. GNOME, KDE, and the window manager Sway all use it.
GNOME is the desktop environment I have, so presumably it uses Wayland??
Ah. Yeah, GNOME is the desktop environment, and Wayland is the display server it uses.
Sorry for confusing you btw
It's OK. I have only been using Linux since 2019, so there are still some terms I'm getting used to.
My desktop environment is made of solid oak wood.
I love wood desks
I use SwayWM!
