If I were to call it off, I'd be sure to arrange another date to show that I'm still interested. But also do it as early as possible so not to be last minute. Otherwise I'd try to make the most of it and have fun, and if I'm not feeling it from the get go then say so and just have a friendly outing with them if they're still good with that.
I'm not ready to date anyone so that scenario is probably never gonna happen, or that would be cancelled because I would be panicking at the idea of a date. But assuming I somehow felt like dating, then once the date is set I wouldn't be able to cancel it because I would feel too pressured to go. Maybe, just maybe, if it's with someone I trust, someone with which I know for sure canceling would not hurt them or hurt our relationship, or if the consequences of not canceling would be far worse, then maybe I would tell them everything. I almost never open up that much though, unless I am really seeking attention.
