This was interesting to me and i’m lucky enough to know someone who natively speaks korean and plays limbus in kr so i asked him about it! All credit to Ciel @/10seisan for this incoming text wall :)

Here’s what he had to say:

I, too, read that Hong Lu’s tone and speech patterns as being more feminine. Specifically, I would describe his tone as sounding like a mixture of customer service and feminine speech, if that makes sense. His vocal inflexions are more noticeable and they tend to go upwards in pitch, which is associated with feminine speech patterns. I would say that what the asker sent about how women tend to speak here is accurate, and I think that misogyny plays a large role in it as well. As an example, the passive speaking, we have the word 돌려서 말하다, which means “to indirectly speak about a topic” or “beat around the bushes”. This is somewhat expected for people of all genders in formal situations to be polite, but women tend to do it more often and in less formal situations as well due to societal pressure to not seem “aggressive” by coming across “too strong”. Tangents aside, Hong Lu’s tildes in the text corresponds to the voice lines where he drags out syllables, speaks more softly, and/or has a particularly noticeable rise in inflexion at the end of a sentence, so they certainly are indicative of his feminine mannerisms in speech. As for the ellipses, this depends more on the context, since they can be used simply to indicate pauses, but I wouldn’t be surprised if at least some of them coincided with something specific to his speech mannerisms as well. As for how he compares to the other sinners, I would say that, in some ways, his speech sounds similar to Rodya’s, actually—more so than the other sinners. Especially when it comes to the (canonically) male sinners, his speech is not at all similar to any of them. Yi Sang may be the closest if I were required to choose—solely due to his voice being on the softer side—but even then, Yi Sang has very little inflexion and typically ends his sentences with a fall in pitch, unlike Hong Lu

This is all really interesting to me because as an english speaker (and as a person who tends to tune out vocal performance in general, esp if it’s foreign) i can only catch some of it. The delivery on Hong Lu’s lines make sense, especially when taking his background from his source book into account. (whether you want to purely read this as overly formal speech bc of the whole “family is like a cohort of kin looking for a chance to stab you in the back” thing or you want to read gender in it is up to you)

The fact it’s most similar to Rodya’s speech patterns is interesting too… I notice this in the english text as well (i’ve seen people mistake abnormality log text written by Hong Lu for Rodya and vice versa on numerous occasions)
Rodya plays up her feminity a lot as a mask so it makes a lot of sense that it’s the closest to Hong Lu’s but still. very interesting. I’m a huge fan of their dynamic in general but that’s a tangent for a different ask, it’ll just be interesting to see if/what can make Hong Lu drop those speaking patterns…

I could yap a bit more on this but i think i’m just gonna leave it be for now because Ciel did a really good job at explaining it all :)

hmmmmmm.... i dont rotate it too often bc my hcs tend to stay within the canon and the canon. well. it doesnt exactly allow for all that! I do think it's really lovely to put angela in a situation where she is forced to realize people care about her and gets showered in affection and has absolutely zero idea on how to deal with it... it's very cute and i think it's a lot of the appeal of those three together because. angela has never had anything like this ever before and she deserves to be able to put down her emotional walls even if just for a little bit. only a bit related but i think angela makes a little bit of a purring noise when happy or flustered bc of her internal fans... kitty librarian very cute :)

However. all 3 of them have hater tendencies to varying degrees so it mostly balances out... id say angela has the most hater tendencies but the other two are able to balance her out (read: drag her around to do dumb shit with them) really embarrassing grown ass adults!!! im sick!!!

in general i guess my thesis for these 3 as a polycule is just angela affection exposure therapy. shes never had any of this before and is suddenly pushed into the deep end of ending up with a couple who've been together long enough that they were ready to have a child! it's A Lot but i think itd be good for her

HI it took me a while to get around to this because i got scared but honestly? If you’re on priv you’ve already seen most of it. I think Angelica is quite a bit more forward than someone like Roland is when it comes to intimacy so things would start between her and Angela quicker, mostly under the guise of helping Angela learn more about humanity and showing her more about the world.

Anyway. Imagine your first sexual experience is with Angelica of all people. We’re both on the same page in knowing she’s freaky as hell but for those in the audience who don’t. She's related to Argalia. She’s freaky. Trust me. Angela is mad because she thinks Angelica invented BDSM and she’s going insane because of it

Another thing. I generally default to dom angelica and sub angela with this pairing. It could probably get inverted but angelica is very much a dom top to me because i have eyes that can see and i think its incredibly fucking hot. Angela in a vaccuum is something mostly switch-y but for this pairing I lean towards bottom angela and i also tend to make her a little bit of a brat. Shes my favorite little hater and even if she’s woefully outmatched here she still tries to get the upper hand in any way she can.

Glove kink has been doing awful things to me lately with this pairing… fingering Angela with the gloves still on and then making her lick them clean afterwards… ough. Angelica praising Angela for being so obedient when cleaning them and feeling Angela whine around her fingers at the praise. Oh my god. (The Angela praise kink is non-negotiable and canon to me.) The black silence gloves are extra freaky because of the sound canceling ability… Angelica Might be fucking that librarian on every flat surface in the library! Who knows!

Pred/prey is also driving me crazy with them. I wasn't even into this kink til very recently but it just works here. I don’t think Angela is as turned on by danger as some other characters (CHESED.Chesed. Im talking about chesed.) but i still think its fun to put her in situations :) She’s got the bird coding and the fandom has assigned Angelica snow leopard so yknow how it is. Mark up her pale flesh!!! Theres layers here if we wanna run all the Stuff That Happens In Ruina endgame (this is a swap au technically and angelica takes the place of roland so. You know!) but i think it’d be good for Angela to get a little carried away running and fighting back and getting herself out of her head a little. And being fucked past the point of overstim when shes already tired from being hunted down.of course. Aftercare so lovely though… Angelica knows she’s a lot and i think its very important that they have time to take care of each other after…

Im REALLY normal about weapon play also. It’s an Angelica thing mostly. Why did they give the black silence so many weapons if not to use them in a sexual context! I think i've talked about gunplay with atelier workshop before so ill hold off but when writing this ask i got the vision of Angelica using the ranga workshop clawed gauntlets to tear holes in angela’s tights and yeah. Yeah. something starts and they get so heated that angelica doesn’t even bother with taking angela’s tights off, just ripping a hole so she can grind a thigh against Angela and see her reaction… ueah.
This is officially a docs page long which means i got carried away but i was reminded of one of my earlier scenarios I made with them where Angelica eats Angela out under her desk when Angela is attempting to do work. Angelica absolutely refuses to let her come <3 and Angela is slowly losing her composure over it. i might have to dig it back up bc i know its in ade’s retrospring somewhere and it was really fucking good.

Any Way. absolutely impossible to be concise when discussing being freaky. U know a lot of this already i think but its still fun and exciting :)

I really like it when Angela is inhuman, and even if this angela is inhuman in a different way than canon angela (mechanical/bestial) i still like thinking about the strange quirks of her biology... she can't reach some of the feathers on her back or wings to preen them so they get matted/dirty and start really bothering her. One of them sees her struggling to straighten them and goes to help her and angela is just. baffled. she'd probably snap at being touched without a warning but i can see Angela swallowing her pride a few days later to ask for help and this being a Big Moment for their relationship and angela starting to trust them in spite of Everything... :3

HI anon i apologize for how long this was in my inbox but i’m Finally getting around to it because i finally have the vision for these 2 locked down in a way that isn’t just “angelica does freaky things to angela.” I mean it’s still mostly that but i’ve got other stuff now.

Anyway, to me angelica/angela is something i tend to think about in a hypothetical roleswap au where roland was the one who died and angelica ends up being the one to go to the library because i think that gives the most space for things to develop :)

Angelica-Roland swap wouldn’t actually work because Angelica would be making that AI bluescreen (sexual) by the time that the library gets to an urban plague. But that’s not important right now

The gist of their relationship to me is that Angelica is cool as fuck. We all know this. Angela is a little hater (u see this well when she interacts with Roland early game) and she wants to take Angelica down a peg. But she can NOT get a leg up on Angelica at ALL. She gets incredibly frustrated at this and to Angelica it’s almost like when a kitten is mad at you but you keep provoking it because it’s so cute when it does its little angry meows and tries to bite at your finger.

All this to say Angelica can and will tease the hell out of Angela. And it WORKS. It’s ruining Angela’s life a little bit in fact!

Also they make each other worse. Having your only window into the outside world be through Angelica of all people is Awful. The that’s-that-and-this-is-this-isms are so much worse because Angelica was the original source of all that. Also Angela’s Incredibly out of her league when it comes to relationship stuff. She hasn’t done this before and being with Angelica is like being shoved into the deep end Immediately.

I do think they would be able to bond over a lot of their shared history though, with how Angelica was experimented on in the lab underground with Argalia and how Angela. Was also in one of those.

They’re like unstoppable force vs immovable object to me. Its really funny :) I enjoy them a lot and also they remind me of me and my bestie so I pop off whenever I see art of Angela and Angelica hanging out together or really just. In the same image :) We were trying to cook up a dynamic for them so it's exciting people around me started shipping this when they did bc we were able to properly form that stuff :) I still haven't fully workshopped the dynamic and it’s pretty hard to put into words But this is a bunch of what i Think they have going on

asking your followers is Crazy i had no idea we could Do That. Anyway i could do a reasonable/fun or cute hc but the First one that came to mind for me was giving Hong Lu pica (or at least oral sensory seeking/fixation). it Was mostly projection/ a joke pick based on book stuff (Bao-yu was born with the jade in his mouth. there is a point made that he keeps eating people's makeup. he also eats paper at one point. my hungry ass could NOT be the Divine Luminescent Page-in-Waiting) but I could make a legit case for it now that we have Yurodiviye Hong Lu who always has the lollipop in his mouth! For me its less of a Compulsion to specifically eat something inedible and instead a need to have something in my mouth to chew/bite/suck on so I can sate it with stuff like hard candy and it may be the same for Hong Lu!

i could discuss the cannibalism hcs here bc the hong lu id cannibalism tierlist is vaguely related to me and also a pretty funny tierlist but im not gonna rn. if anyone wants that though i can share

Note: i don't actually know if what i have is pica i just chew on a lot of plastic/paper/wax or similar items. all the examples always seem so severe and all the stuff related to diagnosis seems super geared towards young kids :/

Heads Up I do not know book Argalia at all so this is off of ruina argalia only. I'm also not an Argalia Scholar and didn't consult with my friend who's an angelica scholar and its been a while since i've red chamber posted so this is off what i remember :) but in Dream of the Red Chamber Bao-yu (hong lu's literary equivalent) has a cousin named Dai-yu who he's super attached to. Their actual relationship is pretty on and off but they are Inseperable. Bao-yu's Number One Fear is his cousin being taken away from him because as they grow older it sets in that Dai-yu is going to eventually end up marrying someone and no longer live with Bao-yu. You get what I'm on about now. Eventually Bao-yu gets married and Dai-yu dies because of it (this novel is written like a soap opera) (this is a whole thing it would take forever to explain. it's the climax of the novel) and that whole series of events is what sparks Bao-yu's downward spiral towards the end of the book. (i believe it actually starts slightly earlier but those two events make it Considerably Worse.)
It's pretty hard to explain this stuff without a ton of exposition because this is a 2000 page book in english and that's obviously A Lot but tldr dependency since childhood on a family member in a Hostile Environment and then going off the deep end once shes Gone :)
