Can you apologize even when you know you didn't do anything wrong?

my brain is fully convinced i'm always doing something wrong and it's always my fault

I never know I didn't do anything wrong, I only ever think I messed every single thing up. I rarely do apologize though because I tend to just run away from bad situations. I can't forgive myself for anything, even things where I in fact did not do anything wrong or things that aren't in my control, so it's easier to just go away and wait for my brain to stop including that in the list of things I regret in a few years.

Yes, I absolutely can. Words are cheap and apologies placate most people. You just have to say you're sorry, you don't have to be sorry. Work sometimes requires me to apologize for something I have had no control over or responsibility for. It's not hard.
