Can you lose when you never wanted to win?

Not really but oddly, a sense of it can still be felt, if we didn't know what was there until it's gone. It can just be taken for granted.

I think I wrote about this before. There is an Iranian movie which was also taught to us as part of a Persian literature course in high school.

There was a boy who lost his younger sister's pair of shoes. They were from a poor family. The boy had to share his sneakers with her sister. To redress the situation, the boy participated in a footrace. The third prize was a pair of sneakers. He wanted to be in the third place but somehow ended up being the winner of the race. He was truly disappointed that he won the race!

“We all come into this world with a losing hand, but we still have to play it.”

You can always go with less than what you had when you came regardless of intention. But that is not the same like losing when you think in terms of competitions only.

Regardless of how low you set your bar, reality can always find a way to disappoint you.
