Has ever in the history of telling others to “calm down” ever really calmed anyone down? How do you help to calm others when they are upset? How do you calm yourself?

Usually I say, What are u yelling about? Sometimes it works. For me music will calm me down. And generally I don't get too worked up:)

A few times I did have success with 'calm' down. But the majority did need a slap in the face or even tougher means. When the panic system in a human is activated the ability to listen is almost lost. Try to stop a stampede. Not that I slapped people. But it would have been effective.I resorted to brutal yelling like in the army. The other means depending on the character is to let people vent the panic by making them do things, like e.g. cleaning, sorting, packing and unpacking.

Letting them vent and trying to be understanding and patient. Like man, we can't always be an oil raft on the water...let people express their emotions bc sometimes that's all they need. Just listen and show some understanding. They say after the storm always comes the calm

Maybe, but it certainly doesn't work if the person really needs to get calm.

I would listen to them passively, wait until they feel better, and agree with them if they say something to me.

As for myself, there are some musical tracks that help me stay focused and calm
