Should they be allowed to call vegan alternative foods things like bacon, hot dogs, cheese etc?

Only if they're named using silly puns like vegan sausage = kalebasa, or vegan meatballs = beetballs.

I do not expect a hot dog sausage to contain meat, so it may be called vegan too. But cheese is made from milk and that milk is from an animal. Vegan options that mimic that cheese could be called vegan-cheese in oder to make it clear that it is not cheese but a lookalike. Same applies for bacon. Otherwise you could also call ground assorted left over pills flour, simply because it resembles the look of flour.

Only if it's clearly indicated on the package or menu or whatever that it's a vegan alternative. If it is, I can't possibly see how there's any harm done.

NO, words have meanings... they should be called Fakin' and Not-Dogs

Really, I'd rather they didn't - kind of like how you can't call something 'bourbon' unless it's mostly corn-based, or even better, how it's not champagne unless it's from the Champagne region of France. That is the kind of snobbery I can get behind! :-P

If it's meant to mimic the taste/appearance/texture of those animal products then why not. U ever seen a fully vegan description of food? It's custy and bland af
