"I set you free" that's a clear indication of breaking up right?

Well, it kind of sounds like a magic spell is being broken if I’m being quite honest. 🪄 ✨ 🧙🏼 #encanto #hechizo

That phrase implies some weird things. Weren't they "free" before breaking up? Or even worse, weren't you "free" before breaking up? Plus, that sounds slightly dramatic/childish (I'm sure I've heard something similar in a soap opera). But at least it's fun and tones down the negativity of breaking up.

If someone said that to me as a means of breaking up, I’d feel three things. First: utter confusion as to why I was going out with a person who’d use turgid language like “I set you free” to begin with. Second: annoyance at their sheer cowardliness. I’m an adult, not a fucking budgie, I can take it. And third: relief that I got away from the twat.

Yep. I'll kick your ass and I only do it as a gift and since it is better for you and a sign I really care and it is for the greater good too! Anything else is therefore your own fault.

Oh is this the new version of 'it's not you, it's me' ? It's about time, we've been needing a new version of that for a while now

I guess? I guess there are other possible meanings, depending on context. If there's no context? Well, that would be an odd way of breaking up.
