Would you make your 3 year old child wear a mask in grocery stores and public transportation?

Yes, it doesn't hurt and pulls the probability of transmission down enough to care.

I'd make him wear a stupid looking clown mask instead and tell people he insists on wearing it everywhere. As a prank

If I were a mum I would protect my child and do anything to keep it safe and healthy. If that means to wear a steel helmet at groceries? Damn, yeah!

This makes me think about when my then-girlfriend would try to put clothing on our cat, he would be out of that shit in 3 seconds if he wanted to

It’s hard enough to get the average three year old around Tesco without them rolling on the floor in a state of apoplexy about something or other - BUT I WANTED THE COCO POPS!/THESE BANANAS ARE TOO YELLOW!/WHAT’S WRONG WITH CLIMBING INTO THE FREEZER, THAT’S WHERE THE PEAS ARE?! I can’t see sticking a face mask on them - and keeping it there - being anything other than a complete nightmare.
