Do you cover your webcam with tape? Is it a legitimate concern or just paranoia? https://i.imgur.com/VdoIlkh.jpg
Yeah, I'm afraid of the NSA to catch me while I'm doing my illegal activities!
Also more opinions on this topic:
Not sure but I heard that it's impossible for the camera to capture images/video without its light coming on. That would be the sensible way to make them, after all. Also I don't really care if someone sees me, so what? And I'm not very concerned over security measures in general (except that on my new computers I decided not to run any pirated software), so I don't bother to tape it. Is it paranoia or a legit concern? I dunno, I feel it's somewhere in between.
My computer doesn't have a webcam but it's a legitimate concern. Former FBI director James Comey and Mark Zuckerberg put tape over their webcams. James Comey recommended covering webcams. https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/talkingtech/2017/03/10/webcam-security-cover-wikileaks-comey-zuckerberg/98953462/
On my laptops I use black electrical tape, much more stylish 😛
It used to be my job to spend all day trying to break in and exfiltrate data from secure systems. It's absolutely possible for your webcam to be turned on/accessed remotely, especially considering the average home user is generally terrible at keeping their systems up to date with security patches (yes, even Macs are vulnerable) I don't think it's terribly common though, most people who are going to do shit like that is bored kids and creeps, I'd worry a lot more about account numbers and passwords and shit other than access to the camera
No, I switched it internally off. Same effect as tape. It is a sensible safety measure if you also disconnected the mic.
