After t.rump won in 2016, where I live people kept all the signs and flags up indefinitely. Some people in a car shouted "FUCK COMMIE HARRIS!" at me on my way home yesterday, which is madness, partly because of how centrist she is, and partly because seeing me and using me as a surrogate for the boogey people in their minds it's just sad. I haven't been hanging out online this past week, but I know that in reality it's not even close.

Probably the Trump supporters in 2016. Their motley idol had just beaten all the odds to win the election, and it’s not an exaggeration to say half the planet was in shocked disbelief for a day or two. And as most of his voters have the critical thinking abilities, empathy levels, and catastrophic lack of foresight akin to that of ten-year-olds in the school playground, they were ones resorting to the crude name-calling and mocking of people genuinely afraid for the future of their country. Just like ten-year-olds in the school playground.

The electorate is usually a mirror of society. So you blame the American people and both sides to boot actually?

I never really saw either camp as smug, just having a lot of conviction and scared that the other side winning means the demise of America. I think trump supporters have more conviction, but Biden supporters have more clarity and wherewithall about their opinions which counts for something. Probably whoever has the strongest side/the highground in debates will appear smug just because they have the luxury of being right, rather than just being full of crude, stupid passion/hot air, lies and misapprehensions, which is why Democrats have the reputation of being smug.
