How good are you at chess? Is it an accurate litmus test for one's intelligence?

Watched "The Queen's Gambit"? I haven't played chess for years. When I was a kid, I used to play it with my friends and I would usually win but there was one kid that would defeat me every time we played.

I don't know if it's a good measure of one's overall intelligence [overall intelligence?! What does that even mean?!] but good chess players can better think ahead and plan?

Good enough I guess, I know all the rules and some strategy but I will never be a grand master... there are different types of intelligence - you can have C students who are great at planning and strategizing and those people will probably be better at chess than an A student who couldn't plan an afternoon nap

I can beat my mom and my friends. I'd probably suck against someone who plays chess as a hobby. I don't know if chess is an accurate litmus test. Being intelligent obviously helps a lot, it's a game that requires a lot of thinking, but I don't know how high the correlation is between, say, chess rating and IQ. Also, a major thing to consider is that, I think, you can get significantly better at chess with practice, so it would correlate a lot with one's interest in chess..

Nope. Its a smart game, and its an game that is easier to play well if you're intelligent. But I think you're a dummy if you think being a chess prodigy means you're an overall bright person.

I’m okay at chess at best. I think a lot of people would like to think it’s a measure of intelligence, but I don’t think so. A lot of the time it’s just having a very good memory - like doctors.

I guess im pretty good for someone who hasnt digged into chess theory much. High intelligence is a requirement if you want to be really good at it. The best chess players probably all have an IQ of over 150
