Is it ever a proof of love to let go? Have you ever stopped yourself to say I love you for the last time just to let them go in peace?

It can be. It's unselfish if we believe it's for the best for their life and wellbeing.

Lately I'm thinking it's an act of loving yourself to let things go, which would maybe explain why it's so hard for me to do

I have put more pain upon me than was absolutely necessary just to let her go in peace pretending it would not hurt. I could not say I love you in the presence of her man.

To me, that quote means don’t try to control the other person, let them be themselves ! not .. let the go roam around and sample the population and then if they come back it’s meant to be.

Its a type of love to be happy for someone else. But context is key - its might not be love, it could just be a virtuous way of breaking up with someone.

A long time ago, yes. I didn't have much self-confidence at the time, and was just happy that a girl wanted to date me! I hope she's doing well now and is happy.
