Had a conversation w a fried yesterday about how some of her family members won’t give him the recipe for dishes that have been in her family for several generations. What do you “gatekeep”?

When a relative or someone close to our family is gossiped about, I usually get to hear the dirty details last, assuming I ever do.

🤷‍♀️it’s not like they invented the recipe … you didn’t come up with it, why aren’t you sharing!

I believe in sharing any ideas, skills, joys, or other resources that I think can be meaningful or useful. So I don't think I "gatekeep" anything, not in this sort of context. I also believe really strongly in actually giving people the opportunity to give a shit about something, and participate in something, that isn't just about what you can buy or what you were born into or with. Because I think that the fact that those are the opportunities we usually get, if we even get those, is a major contributor to misery, loneliness, and just empty lives.

Not very much! Maybe some of my poetry that's really personal, and that's about it. Most things I like to share.

Hmm… Is this one of those ‘you quietly pass on the family tattie scone recipe on your deathbed’ kind of scenarios? Sounds like it might be. I gatekeep plenty. No one gets to know anything unless they’ve proven they can handle it correctly.

that's very strange - was there a reason given? anyway, yeah I wish I had something somebody wanted
