Who does marriage benefit, really?

No one, if if either one of them doesn't really want to commit for life. I mean, a lot can happen and change over a lifetime but if it's a short term marriage, there really is no point at all in my view. If it isn't for love or commitment, I dunno why it should even exist.

...I'm not sure. But if someone enters into a marriage with the idea of exploiting it - they will 100% benefit from it, and they'll also benefit from the divorce too.

The benefit is divided between social structures, individual benefits and society as a whole I think.

Everybody? Nobody? Who knows? Doesn't it depend on what you're looking to get out of it? I feel like waaaaaaaay too many people get married with little to zero discussion about expectations for the marriage - ya'll gotta sit down and say hey, I'm looking for x.y.z out of this and are you good with giving me that? It's a conversation that needs to happen multiple times as expectations change, but nope people will sit there silent and pissed because some need is not being met that wasn't ever addressed before the marriage
