What do you do to prepare for an exam? How far in advance do you prepare?
Do practice problems/exams, answer study guide questions, go thru the powerpoints and discern what concepts I might need to know from front to back versus things I could reason through if I saw them on the exam.
At my mental peak (first year or two of college) I would study nearly every day. Towards the end of my 2nd bachelor's most of my studying was like 2-4 days before the exams
shrugs Bad memories 😂 I don't remember studying for anything really. It's either in my mind or not. Losing a night of sleep isn't going to help. But school was like Alcatraz for me. I just wanted out.. i look at the exam paper thinkng you killed a tree for nothing because i will not remember this 30 secs after i leave this classroom🤣
I try not to think "EXAM IN 7/6/5/4 DAYS!" Just up the amount of study time a bit, maybe a week before. Don't sit for hours on end poring over stuff because your brain gets fried and you won't be taking anything in. Have breaks. Get totally away from it for a couple of hours at a time. And don't pull an all-nighter the night before if you're not used to it. All you'll do is be so tired you can't remember a thing, your brain will be mush, and you'll be on edge. Two things I find really useful. Set a timer for 2/3 hours. Don't stop until it goes off, and do stop when it does. Have a break then start again. Also, I find typing things out helps embed information - something about eyes to fingers to eyes to brain.
I am a short term preparation type. I do intense preparation for two days. In case I have huge blank pages in my memory and have to repeat stuff I start repeating some weeks in advance.
I used to not be so good at it in college - I would cram a lot. But ideally, I would study the material at least a few days ahead, and I would write down little points that stood out that I thought I should remember. It was tricky, though - some material stuck with me really well, and others I would still forget.
usually I don't do anything except skim the material. if it is math i will practice problems.
