Thoughts on Lia Thomas (trans swimmer who was ranked 462nd as a man) winning the woman's national swimming championship?

Good for her. Top cis swimmers have supported her and I'm glad to see it. On the other side people that shit on women's sports 24/7 now pretend to care because culture war. You could ask them if they filled out a women's NCAA tournament bracket and they would laugh in your face. I hate these people!

There is a solution, it's to factor the clock so they're able to compete on level terms. As seen in the recent paralympics, people with differing degrees of physical disability or sight impairment were able to compete in skiing disciplines against each other by factoring their degree of impairment against the clock. The degree of advantage should be factored onto the clock, I'm sure there's boffins out there who can come up with a formula to work it out.

It's a disgrace and unfair to the actual women. Mentally ill men aren't women and mentally ill women aren't men.

I don't know, maybe it's time to just mix all these gender-split sports and just use weight classes instead, like boxing does...maybe that'll turn into its own problem though

Omg sports are the most inconsequential things ever … but my solution would be either 1 mixed gender competitions, or 2. Have 3 categories - male / female / male-to-female. Female to males can choose which to participate in.

  • Congratulations
  • If I were a researcher studying sports performance, I would be pretty interested in seeing if the relative increase in performance after her transition was predominantly driven by cognitive development or physical development. It's possible to leverage a better comprehension on how that process works in order to further improve the swimmers' performance and possibly ensure a fairer competition for all parties.
  • Unfortunately there aren't enough trans women swimming, especially at higher divisions, for such a study.

I don't want to be transphobic but its terrible.. she can be anything she wants. And I have no issues with feeling comfortable in your skin. But it's for the women, that are born women and have trained their whole lives for it. And for it to be taken away from them. It's not fair really
